The CUA Musicology Colloquium meets almost every Wednesday from 11:00 until noon in Room 211 of Ward Hall.  In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the School of Music in 2015, all of our colloquium speakers this calendar year will be CUA alumni, faculty, and current students. Fall 2016

31 August: Annual Beginning-of-the-School-Year Musicology Reception. 11 am, Latin American Music Center (Ward Hall, room 138).

27 October: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Dominic McHugh (Sheffield University), "In the Workshop of Lerner and Loewe: Archival Sources for the Genesis of My Fair Lady." 7 pm, Montpelier Room, Madison Building.

3-6 November: Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, Vancouver, at which CUA faculty members Dr. Christina Taylor Gibson, Dr. Sara Pecknold, and Dr. Lars Helgert are giving presentations. We will meet in the hotel lobby for a CUA breakfast at 8 am on Friday.

 

 

Spring 2016

9 April:  Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society, American University, at which M.A. student Anna Brashears and Ph.D. student Tom Rohde are finalists for the Lowens Award for Student Research.  Click here for the program and information about local arrangements.

15 April:  First Annual Catholic University of America Research Day, at which Ph.D. students Tom Rohde and Joseph Mann are giving presentations and Ph.D. student Kevin Frecker is giving a poster presentation.  Click here for the full schedule.

26 April: Ph.D. student Joy Garbutt presents an organ recital of music by Parisian women organists, in partial fulfillment of her minor in sacred music. 7 pm, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 619 10th Street NW.

10 May: Laura Yust, M.A. alumna and cataloguer at the Library of Congress, gives a presentation at the Library of Congress on the subject of her Master's thesis. Noon, Whittall Pavilion (Thomas Jefferson Building). Read more and register for tickets here.

19 May: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: R. Larry Todd (Duke University), "Revisiting Mendelssohn's Octet, or the Maturing of Precocity." 7 pm, Montpelier Room, Madison Building.

Fall 2015

2 September: Annual Beginning-of-the-School-Year Musicology Reception. 11 am, Latin American Music Center (Ward Hall, room 138).

26 September: As part of the School of Music's 50th anniversary celebration, Dr. Andrew H. Weaver presents a lecture-concert titled "The Music of Faith in Times of War: Musical Treasures from Mid-Seventeenth-Century Vienna." Based on Dr. Weaver's research, this illustrated lecture will include performances of sacred vocal works by Giovanni Felice Sances, Antonio Bertali, and Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III, most of which have not been heard since the seventeenth century.  Performers include the CUA Chamber Choir and alumni soloists, including recent alumna Sara Pecknold (M.M. 2009, Ph.D. 2015).  Accompaniment will be provided by organist and current musicology Ph.D. student Joy-Leilani Garbutt, as well as a small string ensemble. 7:30 pm, St. Vincent's Chapel.

14 October: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Ryan Raul Bañagale (Colorado College), "The Ongoing Composition of Rhapsody in Blue.” 7 pm, Montpelier Room, Madison Building.

16-17 October: Joint Fall Meeting of the Capital and Southeast Chapters of the American Musicological Society, University of Richmond, at which faculty member Dr. Christina Taylor Gibson is presenting a paper and Ph.D. student Gregory Thomas Martin is presenting in a poster session. 11 November: As part of the School of Music's 50th anniversary concert series of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas, Dr. Andrew H. Weaver gives a pre-concert lecture on the late sonatas. 7:15 pm, Ward Recital Hall.

12-15 November: Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, Louisville.
