Musicology Events in 2014-15

Spring 2015

20 January:  The Piano Division kicks off its year-long series of concerts of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas, with a pre-concert lecture by CUA Ph.D. student Joseph Mann.  7:15, Ward Recital Hall.

16 February:  Dr. Mark Ferraguto (Assistant Professor of Musicology, Pennsylvania State University) gives a presentation on Beethoven's Piano Sonatas in Studio X.  3:40, John Paul Rehearsal Hall.

20 February: Dr. Andrew H. Weaver gives a presentation in the 2015 Music Scholars Lecture Series at the University of Maryland, College Park.  The title of the presentation is "The Materiality of Musical Diplomacy in Early Modern Europe: Negotiating the Emperor's Power in Andreas Rauch's Currus triumphalis musicus (1648)."  4:00, room 2200, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

21 February: Ph.D. student Tom Rohde gives a pre-concert lecture for a concert of choral music by the Cuban group Camerata Vocale Sine Nomine.  4:45, Church of the Epiphany, Washington, DC.

20-21 March: Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference, Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea, featuring presentations by Ph.D. candidate Sara Pecknold and M.A. alumna Rachel McNellis.  Held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and The Catholic University of America.  Click here for more information.

11 April: Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society, the University of Maryland, College Park, at which Ph.D. student Joseph Mann is giving a paper and Ph.D. students Kevin Frecker is a finalist for the Lowens Award for Student Research.  Click here for the program and information on local arrangements.

14 April: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Paul Laird (University of Kansas), "'A Hint of West Side Story': The Genesis of Bernstein's Chichester Psalms as Seen in the Library of Congress Bernstein Collection." Coolidge Auditorium, noon.

14 April:  CUA Ph.D. candidate Christopher Booth gives a pre-concert lecture in the fourth concert of the Piano Division's Beethoven Piano Sonata cycle.  7:15, Ward Recital Hall.

16 May: University Commencement Exercises.

 

Fall 2014

3 September: Annual Beginning-of-the-School-Year Musicology Reception. Latin American Music Center (Ward Hall, room 138), 11:00 am.

7 October: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Carol Hess (University of California, Davis), "Copland as Good Neighbor: Cultural Diplomacy in Latin America during World War II." Coolidge Auditorium, noon.

6-9 November: Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, Milwaukee, at which Dr. Andrew H. Weaver and CUA Ph.D. alumna Angeline Van Evera are giving papers on the same session.
