Spring 2013

10 January: Rev. Prof. Dr. Piotr Nawrot (CUA alumnus, musicologist, and SVD missionary) gives a presentation titled "The Jesuit Reductions: The Infusion of Indian Elements into Jesuit Musical Practice in Latin America during the Baroque." Ward Hall, room 139, 12:30 pm. 

29 January: Caitlin Miller (Ph.D. student and reference librarian in the Music Division of the Library of Congress) gives a talk on Sister Gregory and The Sound of Music.  Library of Congress Jefferson Building, Whittall Pavilion, noon.

19 March: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Todd Decker (Washington University in St. Louis), "MakingShow Boat: Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II, and the Power of Performers." Coolidge Auditorium, noon.

13 April: Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society, Peabody Conservatory, at which Ph.D. student Joseph Mann is a finalist for the Lowens Award for Student Research. Click here for the program and local arrangements information.

3 May: Ph.D. student Topher Booth gives a piano recital in partial fulfillment of his minor in performance.  Ward Recital Hall, 8 pm.

16 May: CUA Musicology End-of-Semester Lunch, Thunder Grill (Union Station), 12:30 pm.

Fall 2012

6 September: Annual Beginning-of-the-School-Year Musicology Reception.  Latin American Music Center (Ward Hall, room 138), 12:35 pm.

17 September: In anticipation of the performance of Mozart's Requiem and Rimsky-Korsakov's one-act opera Mozart and Salieri by the CUA Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir at the National Gallery of Art on September 30, guest speaker Karen Hiles (Assistant Professor, Muhlenberg College) will present the talk "Mozart, Myth, and the Movies: The Requiem and Miloš Forman's Amadeus."  John Paul Hall, 4:10 pm.

2 October: AMS Lecture Series at the Library of CongressBarbara Heyman (Brooklyn College, CUNY), "Samuel Barber: Serendipitous Discoveries."  Coolidge Auditorium, noon.

13 October: Fall Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society, James Madison University, at which Ph.D. alumnus Lars Helgert is giving a paper.  Click here for the program and local arrangements information.

1-4 November: Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, New Orleans.  We will meet for the traditional CUA musicology lunch at 12:15 on Saturday, in the lobby of the Sheraton.

29 November:  The CUA Latin American Center for Graduate Study in Music presents two renowned Latin American duos, who will give lecture-recitals on the music of Chilean composer Javier Farías, who will be present for the event.  At 11:00 a.m. the Duo Orellana-Orlandini will perform, followed by The Alturas Duo at 12:30.  All events will take place in room 211 of Ward Hall.  Click here for more information.
