Spring 2008

25 February-2 March: The Catholic University President's Festival of the Arts presents "Wilder and Wilder (Thornton, that is...)," featuring consecutive performances of Thornton Wilder's classic play Our Town and Ned Rorem's opera Our Town, world premieres of musical settings of short plays by Wilder, film screenings, a roundtable discussion with librettist J.D. McClatchy and Wilder's nephew Tappan Wilder, and lectures by musicologists, art historians, and literary scholars. Click here for an article on the festival in Inside CUA.

26 March: Inaugural lecture of the AMS Lecture Series at the Library of Congress: Judith Tick (Northeastern University), "Ruth Crawford Seeger, Modernist Composer in the Folk Revival: Biography as Music History." Coolidge Auditorium, 7:00 pm.

31 March: Special Guest Lecture: Jeffrey Kurtzman (Professor of Music, Washington University in St. Louis), "The 1597 Coronation of the Dogaressa Morosina Morosini Grimani as Venetian Gesamtkunstwerk." Ward Hall, room 211, 1:30 pm.

12 April: Spring Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society at St. Mary's College of Maryland, at which Ph.D. students Lars Helgert and Karen Uslin and MA/MSLS student Caitlin Miller are finalists for the Lowens Award for student research.  Click here for the program and abstracts.

15 May: Dr. Andrew H. Weaver hosts a CUA Musicology Lunch at his home, 11:30 am.

17 May: University Commencement Exercises.

 

Fall 2007

29 September:  Fall Meeting of the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society at the University of Maryland, College Park, at which Dr. Grayson Wagstaff is giving a paper.  Click here for the program and abstracts.

1-4 November: Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, Quebec City.  We will meet for a CUA lunch at noon on Saturday 3 November.
